Dad's and Their Daughters

Holy Cow #? :  I never thought I would see the day my husband attempted pig tails on his own accord.

My husband’s attempts at hair are, well, less than perfect.  He does get results though.  As we talked on the phone  a few weeks back he told me, “I did our daughters hair so she would look pretty for her play.”

Now said daughter is 20 months old so doing her hair in any capacity is difficult.  Add the inefficiencies of a man doing a little girls hair and you can imagine my skepticism and my delight at the same time.  I wasn’t sure what I would be walking in to see that evening.

The good news is when I saw my little munchkin meander her way in front of the parents with her class she looked adorable.  Perfect, no, but super cute none the less.  The fact that my husband wanted her to look ‘pretty’ for her play probably added to the cuteness factor.  He did a good job though.  I am glad he is attempting to figure out this whole girl thing.  Kudo’s to dads with daughters.

Holy Cow my husband makes me smile a lot!
Happy Valentine’s Day early to my readers!

I've Got my Love to Keep Me Warm ...

Holy Cow Moment#:  I hate the idea of leaving my kids and it's worse on those cold winter days.

It’s snowing and all I want to do is crawl into bed holding my little girl and ignore the world and it’s problems.  Okay – my husband can cuddle too.  The point is I don’t want to leave.  Snow days are made for hot cocoa and Christmas movies.  Cuddling under blankets and snuggling with loved ones.  But, alas, instead I am at work.  Trudging through the snow was not my idea of a good way to spend two hours this morning.

The one thing that I never expected was the fear of my own death.  Not the fear of dying, but the fear of accidentally leaving my child.  This new fear has made driving seem more treacherous and worse yet it has made me realize why I have such a hard time with leaving my child to anyone else.

It isn’t because there aren’t people that I trust.  There are a select few – you know who you are.  But rather, it’s because I don’t want to let her down.  I hate the idea of not being there when she needs me.  I almost think I have a fear of abandonment myself and therefore I can’t leave her alone more than necessary.  Does this make me a bad parent?  I guess it depends on who you ask.  My child does go to daycare so it isn’t as if she will never get away from me. But after I get her, why would I waste time by sending her off to someone else instead of being a mommy and interacting with my kid if I have the choice?

Everyone has their own parenting strategies and no one is really wrong.  So don’t judge me and I won’t judge you.

Manic Mom Sunday

Holy Cow Moment: I thought I hated Sundays before.

Having kids has made me dread the end of the weekend worse than before.  I hate leaving my precious child – while she’s asleep anyway.  This morning I quietly push her bedroom door open expecting to see her curled up, butt in the air, asleep as I do each morning before I go to work.  I always wake her and give her some applesauce or yogurt, change her diaper, and give her a few minutes of cuddle time before I have to say goodbye and head out.  This morning a tiny figure was patiently waiting for me on the edge of her bed.  The moment she saw me enter her room she very meticulous scrambled off her toddler bed to greet me.  It was the sweetest moment to realize she looks forward to our short time together in the mornings too.  This does not however erase the rush of Sunday nights.

Sunday’s were once a day to enjoy your last day at home.  Now they are overrun with making meals, doing laundry, picking up the trail of destruction to pretend like I cleaned, spend quality time with my child and maybe the husband, run to the grocery store and stores in general, come home do more laundry, and so on and so forth.  Someday I will be adding homework to that list.  I guess what it comes down to, is that with kids there are no “quiet days” just “quiet hours” when the children sleep and so you should be too.  But with all the crazy going on the thing that makes Sundays the worst is knowing that the next day you will be returning to work and leaving your little ones for most of the day.

Holy cow a little person can make Mondays worse than they were before.A second is only going to make leaving harder... darn it all.

You Have Got to be Kidding- Man Sue's Wife for Ugly Baby?

Holy Cow Moment ?:  What is wrong with the world today?  China is a little backwards on their woman's rights and having children, but this seems a little off. Click the link to read the story. MSN Man Sue's Wife

If I ever meet a man who claims his child is ugly, or tired to blame his wife for an ugly child, I believe I speak for all woman here, but we would ban together and make sure said man never, EVER, has another child again.

If you have a wonderful husband make sure to hug him today.  If you got rid of a man like this, Kudos!!!!

Seriously men, who in the heck do you think you are?  Not all men are created equal and obviously this one was scraping the bottom of the barrel.  How much does it cost to send hate mail to China?

The Joys of Pregnancy

I have officially broken out the elastic pants.  Why?  Well who wouldn’t want an excuse to wear elastic pants?

So what if I can still get into my normal – pre-baby pants.  They are getting tighter every day and why put the baby and myself in discomfort for the sake of saying “I’m still wearing my normal pants.”  My response is generally going to be “good for you.  Want a cookie?”

So great news for me.
I no longer need to hide my, never been flat, stomach.  Now I get to flaunt any rounding-out there is.
I get to wear elastic pants – as stated above.
Your libido takes a jump for the better – well you think it is for the better while going through it and I doubt any husbands complain.
Your chest has a tendency to grow – okay not great for you if you are larger busted but once again no spouses seem to complain.
You get to gain weight and have something to blame it on.
You have a great reason to eat the extra serving of pie at Thanksgiving OR turn down that nasty casserole your aunt makes every year.  Just claim you will toss your cookies due to its ingredients being an aversion.
Your hair and nails grow better and faster than ever before.
People claim you glow.  Frankly that sounds radioactive and unhealthy, but what woman doesn’t love to feel attractive.
You have an excuse of why you are tired and need to nap.
You have an excuse of why you DESPERATLY need to go to a burger joint of ice cream parlor STAT.  (Who doesn’t want to use the word Stat.)
You get a whole new wardrobe.
Everyone is nicer to you, including the public, but not your next door lesbian neighbor.

I know there are a million more things that make pregnancy rock but I will stop there for now.  I am ignoring morning sickness, constipation, exhaustion, food aversions, crying all the time, bloating, swelling, having to push a boulder through a straw sized hole, prenatal diabetes, preeclampsia, and the fact that you will have to someday deal with a toddler.

Holy cow I love my elastic pants.

When Mom's Away - Who Knows What Might Happen

Holy Cow Moment ?: I think my child and husband have a better time when I am not around.

It's sad to think that they don't miss me but I think it's a reality when you get a picture as I did today.  Thank you technology for allowing my husband to share the havoc my child and himself were causing to her small hairs.

I shake my head still.  The Text that came through: Look someone found mommies hair clips inspires fear in my heart. No, not because I worry about lost of broken items but because I know my husbands lack of hair talents.  I hope the photos show because I just don't think I can do them justice in words.

Holy Cow how can you not laugh at life.  The one time my daughter doesn't pull out hair clips is when her father puts them in.  Of course.

A wonderful Dad

Behind every great mom is a wonderful dad... or in my case.

It might be a little late but I wanted to say Happy fathers day.    My husband keeps me grounded, makes sure I don't go off the deep end.  What i would do without him I don't know.

We took dad to the races - drag races.  My daughter loves loud cars.  Even in the womb she would become very active around cars.  Oh joy!!

So in honor of my husband making it past year one he got to go to the races, something I know he has missed.  Of course at home his races now consist of a wagon, a toddler that jumps ships while the wagon  is moving and chasing her down the street.  That's only a little different right?
